Best family festival? shhhh…don’t tell anyone

I’ve been going to festivals for years, since the care free days of hurling myself over the fence at Glastonbury with nothing but a fur coat and a bottle of vodka. Think I’ve pretty much been to most of them in one way or another, working, playing and having fun. There’s nothing quite like it, and even since I had kids I still feel happiest in a field somewhere….. surrounded by smiles.

photo (13)Over the past few years however, I had started to feel slightly jaded by it all. Surely more than 20 years of festivals had not burst the magic bubble? No!!!!!! Had I really had my day? Surely it wasn’t… couldn’t possibly be… was I really… can’t even say it…getting OLD!?
But then I discovered Shambala. My faith was restored. I take my hat of to you guys, you are amazing. Thank you, thank you, thank you. The perfect balance of indulgence, silliness and relaxation. I’ve been trying to work it out, why did I have so much fun (even with the kids!). It just ticked all the boxes for me. Love (my beautiful friends and family), laughter (particularly shambolympics), and happiness (full on fancy dress and smiles!) Plus, absolutely no self-important, tough man security presence hounding you on your family holiday – who DO they think they are?
photo (12)The thing the festival does best is no advertising or additional hidden expenses (unlike so many others these days). Just fields and fields of fun and silliness. Absolutely no ‘sponsored by’ or ‘in association with’ and only a couple of fair rides and the odd ice-cream van for the kids to pester you about.
I had started to resent paying all that money for a festival ticket and being banished with so many other anorak wearing parents to the kids field for an easy life. Shambala IS a kids field, no one takes themselves seriously and ordinary is the extraordinary.
photo (17)The kids ask regularly when we’re going back (reminded daily by our lovely free calendar from the festival recycling project – another thing they do amazingly well). They’ve both been to loads of festivals but Shambala stuck. Carefree fun watching their parents behave like toddlers.
Even my youngest Hunny still talks about the magic jelly fish in the woods and being able to paint that house (and herself).
photo (11)It may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But we LOVE it. Thank you Shambala. You have restored my faith in festivals. You are amazing and I can’t wait to be with you in a field somewhere again!
11 out of 10 from everyone. X
Shambala – seriously silly family fun – but don’t tell everyone.
