My first day off in 8 years, 2 months and 13 days

shineSpoiling ourselves is something us mums rarely do. When I found myself with both kids at school & nursery on Thursday and no work for the first time in over 8 years, I didn’t really know what to do with myself.

I was lucky enough to recently win a competition on twitter for a hair cut at a proper trendy salon in Brighton called Shine. Lucky me! Brilliant timing for my first day off so I phoned up and they fitted me in straight away.

Spending money on personal maintenance is not something I’m really in the habit of. The makeup I own is older than my kids and the last few haircuts I’ve had have been rather disappointing discount deals.

As a rule, I don’t really enjoy hairdressers. They are noisy and full of hip cool young people who just make me feel old and craggy. I’ve also realised that there is no other situation where I would choose to spend an hour looking at my own reflection. Scary!

But this was different.

shine insideThe salon is beautifully decorated, calm and relaxing. Once you have been seated and explained how disastrous your hair usually looks you are treated to a lovely head massage. Topped off with a ride in a massage chair while they washed my hair and a lovely cuppa I was feeling pretty chilled. I shut my eyes for a little while and almost drifted off.

All the staff there were really friendly and nothing seemed rushed. The manager chatted to the customers while I was there and he seemed to know lots of them personally.

It’s the first hairdressers I would definitely use again as you clearly get what you pay for. I will try not to leave it another 6 months like last time!

shine hair cutShine are located in the North Lanes of Brighton so I spent the rest of my free time wandering round some old favorite shops. Then back to the humdrum reality of the no.50 bus and the school run.

Thank you Shine for making my first day off in years so enjoyable.

If any of you are looking for a new hairdressers in Brighton check them out at shinehairgroup.com. I can highly recommend Anna (pictured here).

Thanks again!

btw. It’s the first thing I have ever won like this so I am now slightly hooked on competitions. Apologies in advance to those that follow me as I may start to fill your feeds with competition shares! You have been warned. You’ve got to be in it to win it. Right?
