Wild animals on Brighton Beach! Team Honk

honk facesWe did it!

For some ridiculous reason I agreed to take part in a Lands End to John O’groats relay for Sport Relief with my friend Maddie from Gammon and Chips.

Sport and I are not familiar friends. More distant cousins I suppose. Unless it involves a pint of cider and a heavy bass line the closest I come to exercise is an occasional go on Wii Dance if I can drag myself off the sofa.

So what was I doing?

My 4 mile leg of the Team Honk bloggers relay was Hove Lagoon to Brighton Marina and last week I wrote ‘It’s official, we have lost the plot‘ and  flippantly promised to do in it on roller skates. And in fancy dress!

After a brief and unsuccessful practice I decided there was no chance of skating 4 miles without either breaking a limb or delaying the whole race.

Admitting that we are not as young as we used to be Maddie and I thought about alternatives.

Walk – not enough time

Run – not a bloody chance!

Drive – not allowed (unfortunately)

Hitchhike – possible but my past experiences leave me a little nervous (that’s another blog post)

Cycle – RIP bike due to inactivity

And then the fabulous mums at Micro Scooter came to the rescue with a brilliant scooter for us to complete the challenge. I grabbed my daughters scooter and we were off!

After a run of small errors (Maddie conveniently forgetting her fancy dress and me turning up dressed as a leopard with nothing else to wear!) we set off.

Mother Nature blessed us with a glorious day that reminded me why I love Brighton.

The scooters were a brilliant option. How on earth we thought we’d ever make it on skates?

Team Honk Brighton covered 47 miles from Worthing to Hastings and so far have raised over£500.

Well done, amazing effort. Hey and I truly believe taking part in a bit of wii dancing equals the same effort as an exercise class!

You look great and did a sterling job! Really sorry not to have been able to do the pick up with Di as planned and meet you myself but hope to rectify that in the near future. Brilliant job girls and that video is super 🙂
