This weekend we went to our first festival of the season Elderflower Fields.
We had a fabulous weekend of family fun and I hared some of my ‘top tips for taking kids to festivals’ with lots of new families who were taking the plunge with their first family event.
I also had a column in the Argus featuring a Sussex Family Festival round-up.
Get me, a column in the Argus!
If you’re not quite ready to do a full weekend at a festival with kids I included some day festival suggestions in my recent column (now that I am officially a journalist and all that!)
Whizz Bang Pop Festival is one of the great day festivals I recommend and the lovely organisers have not only donated a family ticket to one of you lucky people but also the chance to DJ IN THE DISCO SHED!!
For some families the thought of sleeping under canvas with their little ones is just too much. Festivals can also be pretty intense for kids if they are not used to big crowds or loud music so starting out with a 1 day event is a great way to introduce them. Finding one that is on your doorstep is even better. Enjoy a brilliant day out and back to the comfort of your own bed.
Whizz Bang Pop Festival will be held at Convent Field in Lewes on Saturday 26th July and promised to the ultimate party for little people. It’s organised by the Whizz Bang Pop childrens entertainers who have years of experience keeping children entertained so it’s bound to be a great day. I love the look of the ‘adult crèche’ and the festival sounds the perfect size to give older kids a chance to explore while you relax. My husband is thrilled to see Harveys will be on tap and I am really looking forward to sampling the great local food and having a boogie with my kids at the Disco Shed.
What I like most about this festival is everything is included in the price (food and drink extra). Tickets are just £20 so you can enjoy a full family day out for under £100 if you don’t hit the bar, as I am sure we will! All the entertainment and activities are included so kids won’t be pestering parents all day for all the added extras so many festivals hit you for these days. I actually paid £6 for facepainting last year at one festival. I’m still getting over it!
Check out the website www.whizzbangpopfestival.co.uk/ for full listings of activities. There’s loads going on and I haven’t tried to list it all here but if you are looking for a way to celebrate the start of the school holidays this is the perfect family treat.

Mine would be ‘Mr Blue Sky’ by ELO. it was our walking out of the church song when we got married so we play it a lot at home and wee sproglet likes to jig about to it!
Great choice.
Harry belafonte..jump in the line (shake senora)…beetlejuice classic
Ha, Ha. Bought beetle juice at the boot sale the other day for the kids. Thought I better watch it first to check it was OK for an 8 year old. I think the fact it was about dead people and quite scary must have completely passed me by as a kid! Great tune though.
