We were recently invited to check out the Brighton Sand Sculpture Festival which has taken over Black Rock on Madeira Drive.
Now I humbly class myself as a bit of a sand master. I have spent many happy hours building master pieces or turning the kids in to mermaids. But this is something different.
The sculptures really are amazing. If you’ve never been to anything like this then it’s really worth a look. As well as the sculptures there are some pretty cool pieces of street art that have appeared and brightened up a sadly disused area of Brighton.
The kids really enjoyed packing the sand to make their own master pieces in the giant sand pit. Hunny and I created a family of turtles and Daisy made the Minion above (the face is on the other side).
The theme of this years festival is ‘Around the World…in Sand’ and the kids can enter a competition to have their own design turned in to a full size masterpiece from the artists.
The festival is at Black Rock in Brighton (Marina end) until the end of September and tickets includes a one way trip on the Volks Railway from the station by Brighton Pier. We parked in the free Marina car park and spent the morning on the beach.
They are also running Parent and Child mornings where the kids get a lesson in sand sculpting and are free to play in the giant sand pit while you have a coffee in the great little cafe there.
