Now you are Six

new earrings‘So when they ask for a tattoo at 15 will you say yes?’
I’ve been really surprised at the reaction to letting my youngest get her ears pierced for her sixth birthday. It hadn’t even crossed my mind that she was too young. Is there a right age to get your ears pierced?

To strike or not to strike? Let our Kids be Kids

schools outIt’s all gone crazy!

Life seemed so much simpler when I was a kid. You went to the local school, played out in the street with the local kids till it got dark, and never was there a mention of exams or tests until you got to secondary school.

Taming the tantrum – one glitter shake at a time

As a parent, learning how to effectively discipline your kids can be pretty tough. The mind jar glitter shaker can be a great solution because your child will begin to associate it with a time to relax and calm down.

Listen to me. What an expert! We actually tried a mind jar for a while when my youngest was 3 but the tantrums in this house got so bad it was hurled against the wall. (By my daughter, not me)

Honesty Tourettes

ImageWe’ve all been there. Excited child with a beautifully wrapped gift from a relative or friend. Hoping and preying that we have instilled that look of delight and happiness in them, that no matter what the gift contains, they will be polite and receive it gratefully.

After all, it’s only polite. Right?

10 tips to enjoy (or survive) festivals with KIDS!

daisy babyOur kids have grown up at festivals.

It’s certainly a challenging experience with little ones especially if the weather’s bad.
More endurance than enjoyment.
But still we do it.
Come rain or shine.
We keep going back for more.
There is nothing quite like it.

WE LOVE IT!

I Quit

It’s become a dreadful guilty pleasure over the years.

At first it was limited to at home in private only.

But more recently I have lost all will power.

Started even to do it in public.

Unashamed.

So that’s it.

I QUITE!

A date with Daisy – somewhere over the rainbow..

…there’s a place that i dream of, once in a lullaby.

rainbowFour and a half years, every night without fail, I sang this song to my little Daisy. But then number 2 daughter arrived. BAM! I tried to spread my attention between them at bed time but it became easier for me to take care of baby and leave Daisy to her daddy.
Last week it suddenly hit me, where has my little girl gone? Have I lost her without realising it?

Elderflower Festival – QUALITY Sussex family fun

EF-tweetbirdJust booked up my May Bank Holiday weekend. Organised hey?

Quality and festival rarely go together.

But last year we stumbled upon Elderflower Fields.

Never again will I accept that festivals plus kids equal 3 days of soggy chips, missing all your favorite music and hovering small bottoms over swamp infested portaloos.

To pea or not to pea? That is the question

hunnypeaMy two year old is well known for her tantrums. Her latest thing is screaming BOGEY at the top of her voice, kicking our much suffering dog then throwing herself dramatically to the floor. Slightly better than shouting ‘I hate you mummy, you’re a  BAGEL!’ in the middle of Sainsbury. But still not great.

‘I like to move it move it!’ (Madagascar LIVE)

photo (6)I took the family to see Madagascar LIVE  last night at the Brighton Centre.  Part of my continual quest to keep the kids busy and get out of the house on these wet and gloomy weekends.

It was great, amazing stage sets, actors, costumes and music. If you get the chance go and see it. Continue reading ‘‘I like to move it move it!’ (Madagascar LIVE)’
